Teacher Information –
I have been a teacher in the Hitchcock Independent School District for 24 years. I currently hold Texas Educator Certification as Elementary Self-Contained (Grades 1-8), Elementary Reading (Grades 1-8), Kindergarten (Grades PK-KG), English as a Second Language (Grades PK-8), Special Education Supplemental (Grades PK-8). I also have 171 hours in specialized training in Dyslexia Intervention Strategies.
Class Description
Students are given specialized services in language arts, reading, and math in small group settings. The Dyslexia Intervention Program is a series of 150 lessons which are delivered in small group settings.
Class Objectives
To assist each student so that they may be able to successfully master TEKS for their grade level and pass state mandated tests.
Class Supplies
Any supplies that the students need when working with me are provided.
Class Requirements
Homework is designed to reinforce and maintain the student's lessons in school. It is an important part of their education. They are expected to complete homework assignments and return them to school the next school day. Homework is not part of the Dyslexia Intervention Program but students should be reading for practice a minimum of 20 minutes each evening.
Class Policies
Breakfast is served at 7:00am each day. Instruction begins at 7:00am and ends at 2:45pm. Prompt daily arrival at school is extremely important in building and maintaining the educational skills each student needs.
Grading
Grades are given based on the particular objectives or skills that each student has. A progress report is sent home each six weeks and grades are given to the classroom teacher and recorded on report cards. Grades are not given through the Dyslexia Intervention Program because it is a series of teacher directed, guided lessons that insure student success.
Parental Involvement
There are many opportunities for parent/grandparent/family involvement in your child's education. These include PTO, parent-teacher conferences, parent volunteer work, parent workshops, school activities, and library time with your child. Please call the school office if you can volunteer your time.
